As we all know, Ferrari doesn’t tend to shy away from high prices. After all, the manufacturer produces famed Italian supercars of all things, so it makes sense that nothing would come cheap.
But even the mega rich have to admit there’s a point where things can get, for lack of a better word, silly. As in paying extraordinary fees for extraordinarily insignificant options. One of the worst has to be the racing stripe for the old 599 GTO – that was a £7,589 extra!
Are there better ways to spend that cash? Of course there are…
Two used 2007 Mazda MX-5s
Now, it’s no Ferrari, but the Mazda MX-5 is still a pretty good little car. It’s not particularly quick with just a 124bhp 1.8-litre engine under the bonnet, however, speed isn’t the MX-5’s focus point – handling is. The MX-5 is light, nimble and playful on the road. This is a car you drive for the sheer joy of driving.
One used 2008 Mini Hatch JCW
If the MX-5 is a bit too slow for your liking, take a look at the Mini Hatch JCW. It’s turbocharged 1.6-litre engine allows for 0-60mph in just 6.5 seconds – quite a bit faster the MX-5’s 9.4 seconds. And while you can’t have rear-wheel drive fun in the JCW, its go-kart-like front-wheel drive setup is still great. Plus, for no extra expense, you can get it with racing stripes. Take notes Ferrari…
One used 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX Estate
Need something more practical? The Subaru WRX estate might be the car for you. It’ll provide you with more than enough boot space, while still offering a ton of performance along with the manufacturer’s renowned four-wheel drive system. It’s very versatile this thing. The Ferrari and its racing stripe, however, is not so versatile.
One used 2003 Porsche Cayenne Turbo
This is more like it – the 4.5-litre V8-powered Porsche Cayenne Turbo. 0-60mph in around five seconds, 444bhp and still room for five full-sized adults and their luggage – what’s not to like? Sure, it’ll be expensive to run and probably quite unreliable, but you could say the same about the Ferrari.
758 racing stripe decals
No, unfortunately you can’t get that beautiful Shelby GT500 on this budget. What we’re focusing on is the racing stripes, which online you can find various for around £10. So, for the same price as one Ferrari stripe, you can get 758 regular stripes.
