Mike Brewer previews Classic Car Auctions Christmas Sale

145 lots on offer including five Wheeler Dealers cars

Mike Brewer previews Classic Car Auctions’ final sale of 2022 – its Christmas Sale at Warwickshire Event Centre, held Saturday 10th December.

This weekend sees the final sale of 2022 for Classic Car Auctions and our own Mike Brewer previews some of his pickings from the sale which includes five cars from Wheeler Dealers.

As well as Mike’s own Porsche 928, which appeared in an early series of Wheeler Dealers with Edd China, there are four more recent restorations up for grabs in CCA’s Christmas Sale, held Saturday 10th Dec from 10.30am at Warwickshire Event Centre.

Three of the cars are from the latest series of Wheeler Dealers – the 2003 Mercedes Benz SL55 AMG (R230), the 1983 Vauxhall Astra GTE Mk1, and the 1963 Fiat 600D.

The Mercedes AMG had the usual mechanical issues that are common on the SL500 and SL55 but Mike and Elvis worked their way through all of them. Too many details to list here, the car did benefit from a new set of wheels and tyres and an upgrade kit bought from the US for almost £1,000, promised to up the output by another 60bhp.

A very rare car and one on Mike Brewer’s list for Wheeler Dealers, the Astra GTE marked Vauxhall’s first foray in to the relatively new ‘hot hatch’ segment which proved very successful. This black Mk1 had sat unused for nearly 30 years when it was discovered.

Having never restored a Vauxhall before on Wheeler Dealers, the deal was done with A580 NHD becoming the next star of the show and Elvis’ latest restoration. Described by Mike as “one of the best Wheeler Dealer restorations we’ve ever done”, this fabulous Astra should turn a few heads.

Wheeler Dealers restore a brilliant Italian classic

The Fiat 600D is ‘joy on wheels’. Historically significant as the first rear-engined FIAT, the 600 was a masterpiece of automotive packaging, cramming accommodation for four into the same 2,000mm wheelbase as the outgoing two-seater Topolino.

This super little 600D had been imported from Southern Italy, and not yet registered for UK roads when it was discovered by Wheeler Dealers and there are not enough words to describe the quality of the little Fiat’s rejuvenation and it’s probably best to watch it on Wheeler Dealers Season 17, Episode 15.

Resplendent in ‘Verde Chiaro’ – mint green if you prefer, the Fiat is now UK-registered and showing two former keepers. It’s recently been serviced, fitted with a new clutch, water pump and drive belts, and topped with a new roof rack.

The fourth car with a Wheeler Dealers connection is from the latest series of Dream Car. This 1985 Ford Fiesta 1.1 Popular Plus has only done 9,000 miles from new. The car was so good, it only required former F1 mechanic, Elvis, to carry out a service and adjust the tappets.

Finished in Mineral Blue, it looks and runs like it did when it was driven out of the factory. A true time capsule, and with Ford announcing the end of the Fiesta, a rare opportunity for someone to give this car a new home, especially as its offered without reserve.

With 145 lots on offer, cars will be available to view at the Warwickshire Event Centre (CV31 1XN) on Thursday 8th and Friday 9th December between 10am and 5pm and from 9am on Saturday 10th until the auction commences at 10.30am. Entrance to the sale is by catalogue only. These will be be available to purchase at the WEC for just £5 which admits two and includes ample free parking. The cafe will be open on Saturday from 9am serving a variety of hot and cold food and drinks. Registration for bidding can be done in person at the venue, by phone or by creating an account on the Classic Car Auctions website.
