The first Classic Car Auctions sale of the year will be held at The Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show at the NEC, Birmingham over the weekend of the 25th & 26th of March.
A remarkable ‘Garage Find’, one owner from new, 11,836 miles and fresh from 33 years storage, this dusty Mini 1275 GT will feature in the sale with Classic Car Auctions for an estimate of £10,000 – £12,000.
One can only wonder why its owner garaged the Mini 1275 GT for three decades, but its discovery will delight all Mini enthusiasts as one more of these ground-breaking British icons takes to the road again in a very different country from the one led by John Major in 1990.
In order to prepare the Mini for the 1970s, it was restyled with a boxier front end featuring a full width grille, larger headlights and a revised front bumper. The new model was offered in two trim levels: the Mini Clubman and the Mini 1275 GT.
The new GT featured a 1,275 cc four-cylinder A-Series, a four-synchro, close-ratio, four-speed manual gearbox, a tachometer, and 10-inch Rostyle alloy wheels fitted over 7.5-inch Cooper ‘S’ disc brakes.
Finished in Bronze Yellow over Black Vinyl, this example dates from 1970. With an indicated mileage of 11,836 and stickers confirming the next service at 13,438 miles and the tax disc expiring at the end of June 1990, CCA assume the car was taken off the road in late 1989/early 1990.
Richard Greenhalgh who sourced the car for CCA, says: “The bodywork and interior do seem to remain in remarkable condition. It almost feels as though a soapy wash and a good valet would have it back in shape. The engine bay however, is not so good and the car will undoubtedly need a full mechanical recommission.”
As with any classic car needing work to get back on the road, prospective bidders should come along to the NEC and inspect the car so they can see for themselves what may or may not need doing. It is presented to auction as it was found, with its original Passport to Service and original tool kit.
This Mini 1275 GT discovery is just one of many great vehicles coming to Auction as CCA’s first sale of 2023 at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show 25th – 26th March at the NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT.
