Bentley introduces the Bentayga Speed

Bentley Bentayga W12 to be a hit with bigger global markets

Following the launch of an extensively-revised Bentayga range, Bentley has added a Speed variant although sadly it won’t be coming to the UK.

How so? Well, all UK Bentley Bentaygas are powered by the 4.0-litre V8 engine while the Speed retains the W12 unit, which means the new model is reserved for markets where the bigger engine remains popular – think the US, Middle East, and Asia.

That 6.0-litre W12 remains as powerful as ever with 626bhp and 900Nm of torque, enough to push the SUV from 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds and on to 190mph. The unit also features cylinder deactivation and ‘sail’ technology (release the throttle at motorway speeds in fifth to eighth gear and the engine drops to idle) for improved efficiency – claimed economy and CO2 emissions are 19.8mpg and 325g/km respectively.

The chassis is equipped with air suspension, Bentley Dynamic Ride which utilises a 48v electric active roll control system, and four driver-selectable Drive Dynamic modes – Comfort, Bentley, Sport and Custom. In addition, the Torque Vectoring by Brake system has been recalibrated for the Speed, while optional carbon ceramic brakes are claimed to save 20kg over the standard steel items.

Externally, the Speed can be distinguished from other Bentayga models by dark tinting for the headlights, radiator grille and bumper grilles, along with a unique bumper design and body colour side skirts. A unique design of 22-inch wheel also features. There is also a wide choice of paint colours – 17 standard hues, 47 in the Extended and Mulliner ranges and 24 duo-tone options.

Inside, buyers will find unique interior trim with Alcantara applied to the seats, steering wheel and headlining although this can be swapped for leather. The seat back rests also feature special Speed embroidery.

The new model also comes equipped with the fully digital instrument display familiar from the Bentley Continental GT, while a new infotainment system includes an improved 10.9-inch touchscreen and an expanded suite of My Bentley connected services which operate via an embedded SIM. A head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are also included.

If all of this isn’t enough, buyers looking for additional exclusivity can choose the Black Specification, highlights of which include replacing exterior chrome with black trim, Gloss Black 22-inch wheels and a carbon-fibre roof spoiler.
