NEC Classic Motor Show goes online for 2020

Event will be in aid of the Sporting Bears' chosen charities

The organisers of the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, will celebrate the much-missed season finale with a free-to-attend online event held on Saturday 14 November.

With the annual three-day spectacular at Birmingham’s NEC postponed due to the global pandemic restrictions, motoring enthusiasts will instead be able to enjoy a day of motoring content delivered on the show’s social media platforms, with the main event happening via Facebook and hosted by Wheeler Dealers’ Mike Brewer.

Show Director Lee Masters explains: “Every November for the past 35 years, we’ve hosted the classic car movement’s season finale. This year, we may not all be able to be at the NEC in person but we’re hoping to bring our community together for a last hurrah before our cars are put in lockdown for the winter.”

The Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership will still be taking place – just virtually! Classic car owners are invited to enter their vehicles into the competition with just 12 cars selected to take part in the grand final.

The finalists will be asking for your votes to decide the overall winner. There will be the usual certificates and a ‘virtual’ trophy as well as the offer to display the car back at the NEC when the restrictions are lifted and shows can resume. Enthusiasts can enter by submitting a short video. More details can be found on the show’s website.

Andrew Evanson, Senior Operations Manager at Lancaster Insurance, said: “It’s fantastic that the community will still be able to come together, albeit virtually, and celebrate our love of classic cars next month. The line-up is jam-packed and the Lancaster team will also be getting involved on the day too – it’s definitely a date for the diary!”

Plans for the online event include previews of the cars included in Silverstone Auctions’ two-day sale, which already has some amazing vehicles on offer and is still consigning vehicles until 26 October. Potential buyers have the opportunity to view the cars prior to the sale.

Lee adds: “We will also be showcasing the amazing work of the Sporting Bears Motor Club and invite enthusiasts to make a donation to the club so it can continue its vital work in supporting UK children’s charities.”

Practical Classics will give an update on not one, but two project cars, both sponsored by Lancaster Insurance. The first is the car the PC team had planned to restore on the Discovery Live Stage – a Reliant Rebel. Once completed, the Rebel will be auctioned in aid of NHS charities. The second is the VW Camper van that will eventually raise cash for Prostate Cancer UK.

The Gilbert Michaelson team will also be offering the usual advice they would give in the Restoration Theatre via a Q&A session, while headline sponsor Lancaster Insurance will be sharing updates on the work it does with the car club community. Meguiar’s will be looking back at the stunning cars that have featured in the Club Showcase and those that have been restored and modified by their team.

Car clubs will also get their turn in the spotlight as they give updates on their club and members’ vehicles, while HERO will give an insight into how to start rallying and the events it runs in the UK.

To support the online event and those clubs and traders who were due to exhibit at the show, the organisers are also expanding the exhibitor directory on the show’s website to give each exhibitor its own ‘shop window’ to further promote its offerings.
