Pop-Up Motor Show gets off to a great start in Hampshire

The Pop-Up Motor Show is held at the Festival Place, Basingstoke, until 24 December

While the COVID-19 pandemic has led to plenty of car shows and events being cancelled, there’s now some good news thanks to the Pop-up Motor Show in Hampshire. Held at the Festival Place shopping centre in Basingstoke, over 10,000 enthusiasts visited in the first ten days of opening.

It’s been created by the team behind The British Motor Show, an event that was due to take place in Farnborough in August this year, but that has now been re-scheduled to 19-22 August 2021. This is the first of a series of pop-up motor shows that will take place across the country in the run-up to next year’s event.

The organisers promise a fascinating display, with everything from new and classic cars to modern electric vehicles and motorcycles, plus a lot more besides. The displays will change as the show progresses until it closes on 24 December 2020, but for now visitors can enjoy the likes of an electric Citroen 2CV and a rather unusual push-me, pull-me Mini.

There’s lots more, too, including driving simulators and a giant Scalextric track, plus visitors can ‘Ask the Experts’ for advice on buying and maintenance. And if you fancy a bit of early Christmas shopping, there’s plenty of tempting merchandise, including T-shirts, posters and fun gifts.

Organised in line with current Government guidance and with social distancing in mind, there’s also the promise of new product launches and the premiere of an all-new British-designed model. There’s lots more to come, then, so you’ll want to pay another visit.

The British Motor Show CEO, Andy Entwistle said: “The pop-up show is the perfect creche for car fans and is a brand-new concept in car events, designed to operate within the parameters of current social distancing measures. With our first Pop-Up Motor Show we’ve developed a way in which people can still go to a car show, experience a great selection of cars both new and old and meet likeminded enthusiasts in a responsible manner as we build up to the big event next summer, when hopefully car shows will be back with a bang.”

Free to enter and family-focussed, this seems like a great way to enjoy a bit of car-related fun, and perhaps do a bit of shopping at the same time.
