Vauxhall Mokka gets petrol and diesel engine models

Vauxhall has revealed further details of the distinctively-styled small SUV

Following on from the unveiling of the new electric Mokka-e, Vauxhall has revealed further details of the distinctively-styled small SUV with the latest announcement focusing on the choice of petrol and diesel engines.

Utilising the PSA Group’s Common Modular Platform (CMP), the new Mokka will be the first Vauxhall model to feature the brand’s ‘Vauxhall Visor’ styling. Measuring 4.15 metres in length (12.5cm shorter than the previous model), the wheelbase has grown by two millimetres while Vauxhall say the overall weight has been reduced by around 120kg.

Those engines, then, and the entry-level offering is a turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol producing 99bhp and 205Nm of torque. Linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox, it gets from 0-62mph in 11 seconds with claimed economy of 49.6-51.4mpg and 124-128g CO2 emissions. Next up the ladder is the 1.2 turbo petrol with 128bhp and 230Nm of torque, and which comes with a choice of 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmissions. Economy and emissions are virtually the same as the lower-powered unit although performance improves, the 0-62mph benchmark achieved in 9.2 seconds.

Just one diesel engine will be offered for the moment, a 1.5-litre unit that manages 109bhp and a beefier 250Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard, and claimed economy rises to 62.8-67.7mpg.

Vauxhall has also provided further detail when it comes to specification, including the availability of an SRi variant which will be the first sporty Mokka. It will get high-gloss exterior trim details, unique interior trim, 18-inch alloy wheels and a two-tone roof. The Mokka is also the first model to be equipped with Vauxhall’s Pure Panel digital cockpit which features a pair of widescreen displays, the one ahead of the driver measuring twelve inches.  Infotainment choices include Multimedia Radio and Multimedia Navi with a 7-inch screen, or Multimedia Navi Pro with a 10-inch touchscreen along with voice control and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

And it’s no surprise that plenty of advanced safety and driver assistance tech is available, from adaptive cruise control and Active Lane Positioning Assistance, to Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking. The spec sheet also boasts the likes of LED Matrix headlights, traffic sign recognition and wireless phone charging. Also, Alcantara/leather upholstery is optional along with heating and massage functions. It’s safe to say that Mokka buyers are unlikely to feel short-changed when it comes to equipment levels.

Going on sale early next year, prices are expected to start from around £20,000.
