Mike Brewer’s Alternative Christmas Message

Wheeler Dealers' Mike Brewer version of the Queen's Speech

As families gather safely round the fire for Christmas, our own Mike Brewer offers his alternative Christmas message for 2021.

Before her Majesty The Queen takes to our screens for her annual Christmas message of hope for the festive season, Wheeler Dealers’ Mike Brewer has a few thoughts of his own to share…

Let’s face it – 2021 didn’t start out great and for a minute there, it looked like this year was going to be as bad as the one previous. However, we soldiered on, got our covid jabs and found our way into a new normal.

For the motoring world, that meant new car launches and embracing the future with more and more manufacturers looking towards a fleet of electric models. The classic and used car markets remained buoyant despite the financial impacts of the pandemic.

For Wheeler Dealers, 2021 saw Marc ‘Elvis’ Priestley join the family after debuting on ‘Dream Car’ the year before. The new series also returned to the UK for filming which delighted fans and made it the most watched motoring show in the UK and round the world.

It also delighted Discovery, who commissioned two more series of Wheeler Dealers while we were filming season 2 of Dream Car, which will air in spring 2022.

Elvis came on board with Wheeler Dealers in the UK as Ant Anstead decided to stay in the USA, living in California with his young son. But that didn’t mean Ant wasn’t onscreen as he created his Master Mechanic series as well as Celebrity IOU Joyride, all of which can be found on Discovery+.

There was plenty of other great motoring TV, with my newly departed Citroen SM featuring in the latest Grand Tour episode on Amazon Prime. Five cars from my fleet sold at Silverstone Auctions in November at the Classic Motor Show and a couple of others have also gone to new homes as I welcomed my beloved ‘Frankie’, the 1964 Mini Cooper S, back to my new garage and studio.

So there’s plenty to look forward to in 2022, despite what the media may say at present. Yes there is still a pandemic to contend with but if we follow the rules and stay safe, then hopefully we can all keep enjoying our cars and the company of like-minded enthusiasts in the new year.

From me and the team at Mike Brewer Motoring, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy 2022.
